…if I’m going to get called in to work for this hurricane/tropical storm/rain thingy. The new storm track, courtesy of The Weather Channel shows us back in the cone (wow, check out my hurricane lingo!) so who knows where it will go. Pinellas County declared a state of emergency, so I’m still tethered to my pager to find out if they need us to report. I went shopping today and got my hurricane bag together (sleeping bag, clean socks and uniforms, food, bottled water, etc) so if they call, I’m all set. Which probably means they won’t call. Who knows. For the “Cruise Director”, not knowing is driving me NUTS. Oh well. On the plus side, if we get called in it will just be a bad rainstorm, its not even a Category 1 storm anymore. And the overtime would be nice. I’m working tomorrow night either way.
In other news…thats about it. Still puttering along on the knitting. More later.

Its strange…living in Florida for my first Hurricane season, the first website I check in the morning is no longer my email or bloglines; its the Weather Channel. And here’s todays’ news:

It figures. You know where I live? The peninsula that makes that little divot in the west coast of Florida. After seeing some of the typical everyday thunderstorms we get here, I’m a little nervous, but its reassuring knowing that I’ll be at work if it comes our way. We get a mandatory call-in when any hurricane is within 150 nautical miles, and we’re expected to be on duty for the next 4 days straight (12 hours on, 8 off). The pay would be nice of course, but I’d rather not have to deal with it. Oh well, we’ll see what happens. Either way, I’m off to Wal-Mart to stock up on snacks, socks, and T-Shirts in case I get to spend four (or more) days straight at work. Updates as I get them.

I got a package from Amazon.com yesterday…some CD’s by a band called Moxy Fruvous that I loved in middle school and high school. They were sort of an indie band out of Toronto, Canada, that wrote and performed a lot of satirical songs – some poke fun at famous people or things in the news at the time, and some are just funny. The lyrics are really well written, and these guys can sing really well too. It was a great flashback to play these CDs in the car on the way to work, and I realized I still know all the words to all the songs
The last song on one CD is called “The Gulf War Song”, and while I try to avoid political discussions, I’ve gotta comment on this. The song was written for the first Gulf War, but it amazed me how much it fits today too. Guess not much has changed in 15 years. If you go to amazon.com you can hear some of their stuff, their first CD is called Bargainville (can’t link to Amazon – sorry, I tried).
On a less serious note…I ordered my new computer! Coming soon: pictures of the new laptop, posted from the new laptop
More later, time for bed.

This explains a lot. See #2? Thats where I live. Compare that to NYC (#57) and Rochester (#86). And #1? Orlando. Disney. I don’t get it…but it explains a lot. Maybe its the traffic.

He hasn’t brought himself to actually sit inside it yet…he’s spent all morning stretching out as long as he can to prove that he’s too much cat for a bed. BUT…when we don’t look he goes and cuddles up with it. So we’ll see. I need to find something with sides to block it on – the stool was great for the bottom, but the sides don’t stand up at all. Maybe starch? Hmmmm….
The pattern is from Wendy’s page (not Mom, another Wendy).
